Ryan Swope, Indian Hill High School Engineering Club sponsor, reports that this year's club is off to a great start in their VEX Robotic Competitions, using problem-solving skills to conquer and bring home the gold:

On January 7, after several months of designing, building, and preparing robots, members of the Indian Hill Engineering Club competed in the Covington Catholic Colonel Classic VEX Robotics Tournament hosted by former Indian Hill engineering teacher Bob Lind. The tournament provided our Indian Hill team with some competition experience prior to the official Great Oaks qualifier in February.

During the qualifying rounds of the competition, both Indian Hill teams faced some technical difficulties, and needed to get a feel for driving the robots. However, during the lunch break, we were able to practice and resolve some of the communication obstacles that were plaguing us.

Engineering teaches the importance of problem-solving and overcoming unforeseen hurdles that can arise, so this was definitely a “learning moment” that was extremely beneficial to our team and our students' participation. The Indian Hill “H” team adjusted quickly and persevered throughout the tournament and brought home the tournament champion trophy.
