We are sharing a special series leading up to our Indian Hill High School Eighth-Grade Open House 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 (complete details below). As part of the series, we asked Indian Hill High School students what it means to be Brave.

She is the vice president of her class, was the 2016 CHL Athlete of the Year, and is an AP Capstone scholar. We sat down with student-leader Morgan Coburn to find out from her what it means to be Brave.

Indian Hill School District (IHSD): What does it mean to you to be Brave?

Morgan Coburn (MC): It means being a part of a team. Nobody here is on their own; there’s always going to be a support system of teachers, students, faculty no matter where you go. When you come into the high school there’s going to be a lot of people there to support you, and welcome you in, and you’re going to be immediately be immersed in this family.

(IHSD): What is the best part of being Brave?

(MC): My favorite part if probably the energy – you’re walking through the hall, and you’re always going to see people with a smile on their face. It even starts with the very beginning of your day with Mr. Hayes and Mr. Damadeo standing outside the doors and they’re greeting you. That really just starts you off in a very positive way, and then outside of school at sporting events or club activities you’re always going to get that sense of energy and that you are a part of something bigger than just yourself.

(IHSD): What is your #IHPromise to future Braves?

(MC): I think one thing you’re going to get if you come to the High School is you’re going to grow no matter what. The students are going to grow, the teachers are going to grow, and the really cool thing is that the incoming freshmen are going to get to be a part of that growth. They are going to be learning from other students – but also those teachers and older students are going to be learning from them. The community will always be developing, and the fact that they will get to be a part of that is something really cool, and I don’t think you get that at a lot of schools … sometimes they are “set aside” – oh, they’re the freshmen, they’re the new kids … but at Indian Hill we are going to help each other.
